Don’t Over Think It

Don’t Over Think It

I found this quote online, most likely on pinterest (love that thing!).

When it comes to design, I think my strength is in taking a bunch of things that people love and making them work in their home or office. When I get ready for a barn sale or set the shop, I don’t draw everything out and then go and buy..I do the reverse. I buy things I think are interesting and unique and then pull them all together.

It’s the same concept when I work with a new client. My goal is to understand what they want the space to feel like and how they plan on living in it. Obviously, I draw out the layout of the main room, etc., but most importantly, I want to bring in meaningful pieces to give the house character and personalize the space.

I go out and buy after the base is pulled together; I call this buying the “fluff.” This approach is why no space I design will look like it came out of a Pottery Barn, West Elm, Ballard Design, or Wisteria magazine:-) I believe true design is unique and one-of-a-kind; I’m sure this is why I love vintage and transforming furniture…it adds a custom feel to each space.

In each of you is a designer (for your own spaces); sometimes we just need some help bringing it to the surface.
