Meet Sarah

I thought it would be fun to do a mini interview with a few of the girls at the shop who are truly the backbone of the business. First up is my manager, Sarah Kaye, she is my right and sometimes my left hand when it comes to keeping the shop + Rough Luxe up and running. We are so similar it’s really bizarre sometimes. Often when we have a theme we are working with for Rough Luxe I will say “so don’t think I’m crazy but I was thinking about getting a Tee Pee for this month's RL” and her response is usually “that is crazy I was thinking the same thing!”. We tend to like the same style of things, and often she and I agree on something we think is amazingly cool, and my mom thinks we are crazy.

But what is even weirder (if that is a word) is we have the same birthday! We are both pretty particular with how things should be done and look in the shop and live to make things more organized (if we had all the time in the world). If I could replicate Sarah 3 times, I’d be a happy camper since I feel like in many ways she is a replication of me. When you run a small business, your employees become your family and friends, and Sarah is the younger (much younger) sister I never had. I see so much of myself in her and hope she will be with Stylish Patina as we continue to grow and take on some exciting new projects this year and in the years to come! Meet Sarah…..

Where are you from? Annandale VA!

How long have you worked with Stylish Patina? 2 years this Fall

What’s your favorite part of your job? Helping people create their own works of art from pieces they have inherited, found, and/or are just tired of. It is nice to build relationships with our customers and see how their projects turn out or see a piece I have painted go to their home!

What is your favorite line of paint to use? Why? Annie Sloan Chalk Paint! I love the ease of it, how it can transform the blandest piece of furniture into something unique and fun, and also the amazing color selection she has!

What’s your favorite color to paint with? Aubusson Blue

What’s your personal style? My personal style is a mix of pieces with a more solid finish and bold color choice and some rustic country charm; throw in a splash of glitz and glam, and that sums me up. Think if Ralph Lauren went on a date with Carrie Underwood to a vineyard in the islands.

What are a couple of your favorite things we carry? Favorite things we carry are the SEEDS candle line, our scarf collection no matter the season, and the Positively Green Cards!

What was your best vacation? What’s your dream vacation? My best vacation has been any time spent in the Outer Banks. I have been to a few islands, and although they are gorgeous, I would not trade them for the memories I have from spending time down there with family and friends! My dream vacation would be to South Africa; I want to swim with sharks!

What do you like to do in your free time? My dream free time would like to be spent doing anything outdoors with friends/family/dogs….concerts, the beach, trying new restaurants in the area, thrift store shopping, Nats/Skins/Wizards games…

What’s your favorite food? This is a tough one; my favorite food is either New York Style pizza or a salmon recipe my boyfriend makes. It is ah-maz-ing!

What’s your guilty pleasure? The bachelor/ette (ugh I know)

Something you wouldn’t guess about me by looking at me is… that I am really shy when put on the spot. I am a total jokester and goofball until someone puts me in the spotlight; I will volunteer myself for karaoke but don’t call me up there! I also think I am the world's greatest dancer!
