Ombre is a hot trend in the design world right now. Why should we Ombre? Creating an Ombre wall or furniture item is a great way to change the mood or feeling of a space. In the video below the workers are working on a sample board, but this kind of technique can be applied to anything in your home. Creating samples is really important. It helps give you a hint whether you like it or not. You may feel unsure of the exact look, so it is always a great idea to help yourself be less nervous and create sample pieces.
The Materials:
2 colors of paint / 2 paint brushes/painters tape/rag or paper towel
Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan is being used in the video above. Chalk Paint is a non-toxic material that is water-based. It will bond to most surfaces and leave all surfaces smooth. It is the best option for furniture, decor items, and walls as it requires no sanding or priming!
Instructions For Ombre Wall Painting:
1. Prep your surface by taping off the ceiling line, neighboring walls, baseboards, outlets, etc.
2. Starting on one side of the wall, apply the paint in the same manner as illustrated in the video.
3. Depending on how large you want your color transition area to be, you could start by painting out a strip in the top color and a strip in the bottom color.
4. As you move from section to section, you will want to overlap your last painted area slightly, feathering out the paint to ensure there is a smooth blending of colors.
Instructions for Furniture and Decor Items:
Prep your surface by wiping down your piece and taping off any interior sections where you wish to keep the original finish. A crisp paint line will keep your finish looking clean and professional. Depending on how large your item is, you could paint the entire thing at once, or you may have to break it down into smaller areas, similar to the wall images. For instance, on a large dresser, they suggest painting one side completely with the first layer of ombre prior to moving on to the neighboring side.
