This weeks Before + After comes from New York artisan Kandice. She considers herself a vintage restyler. She says she enjoys taking something old and not only making it new but making it better and unique. She works from a small home based studio in Staten Island, NYC. Kandice is going to tell us a little more about this one-of-a-kind creation!
I bought a 1920s oval desk in Brooklyn and completely transformed it into a peacock lover's dream. I hand-painted the body in a peacock teal, then brushed with soft gold and teal shimmer in crevices. I painted the sides of the drawers and added peacock feathers; peacock fabric was decoupaged on the drawer front, and upholstery studs were added around the edges. The top was covered in a faux black leather with more studs. On the back is a super unique cubby that I washed with teal shimmer and lined with peacock feather fabric and studs. The matching chair was hand-painted black and distressed with teal peeking through, and lastly, the oval mirror was finished in a metallic teal. All complete and looking for a new home.
